Essay Instructions:

Goals:

2. To help students talk about music intelligently
General Information
See your syllabus for the types of concerts that are acceptable. Four concert reports are
required, two are due by midterms (October 10), the other by the last day of class (December 7).
A list of concerts sponsored by the Department of Music for Fall Semester 2017 may be found at
auburn.edu/music.
Additionally, tickets for the event may be purchased online at auburn.edu/music/tickets. Tickets
for students range from $5 - $10, and the concert venues include locations on the Auburn campus
and performance venues in the Auburn/Opelika area.
Students in this section of Music Appreciation are highly encouraged to attend concerts from
September 7 – October 19, November 10-30, and the student Opera Workshop production on
either November 7 or 12.
Students may elect to attend APPROVED concerts in Atlanta, Montgomery, Columbus, etc.
however, instructor approval must be requested at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
Title of pieces: use italics.
Double-space: 2-3 pages (or as many as it takes, shorter is often better!)
Every Concert Report must have documentation attached to be accepted. A signed,
EMBOSSED program must be turned in with your concert report. Some students take notes
during the concert to help them remember the compositions performed. Other students take notes
during the concert listing what they like and dislike so they have reasons to support their choice
of best liked and least liked composition.
