How will the reflection be assessed?
Refer to the grading rubric here |g|. Similar to Major Essays, there will be no resubmission but it is recommended for you to have a face-to-face meeting with me to discuss your FYE 1 draft. This meeting is only for FYE 1 only. This is not required but you will earn a 1 point participation grade if you do. Here is what you need to do:
1. Schedule an appointment with me (the latest: F, 9/27).
2. We will meet for approximately 15 minutes. To make the meeting effective, prepare at least 2 clarifying questions (see Guptill’s chapter 2" What does the Professor want?” (RJ2 reading material), pp. 13-14) addressing a specific part of your draft. My aim is to help you to bean autonomous writer so I will not respond to "potentially annoying questions” (Guptill, ‘'What does Professor want?” pp. 13) such as'Is my draft correct?"Could you read and tell me what is missing’?

Why the assignment? This assignment is a creative way for you to document your participation in campus activities. As you attend events (such as First-Year Engagement events, club meetings, sponsored activities, Abington college sporting events, academic lectures, etc.) you will save evidence of your attendance (your photos with friends or a selfie, flyers, materials, etc.) and a concise log of what, where, when, and why you attended.
When is the due date?
During the semester, you will complete two FYE Reflection for 10% of your total grade (5% each) which is due on Week 6 (9/30, M)and Week 12 (11/11, M). It is a good idea not to wait until the week when the assignment is due to submit. You can submit them at any time after you attend an event.
What do I need to submit?
An ideal FYE Reflection describes your personal and critical reactions to the events you have attended. It reflects what you learned about yourself. Abington College, PSU, and other people. The reflection must be 500-750 words with the following structure:

“Gettysburg: Am American Noh,” performed by Theatre Nohgaku is performed integrating English and Japanese traditional performances. Confederate General Lewis Armistead is the main character in the story and an Afghan veteran who is a descendant of Union General Winfield Hancock and veteran comes to find out about the relationship between the two Civil War generals. Theatre Nohgaku performs different Noh plays associated with the Japanese mostly to non-Japanese audiences. Western concert traditions (classical) and the Noh styles are fused together in the performance Gettysburg was performed on 18th September 12019, at the AB: Sutherland Bldg 009 in Abington, PSU. Observation and imitation are emphasized in traditional Noh training and there is a sense of duty to teach the amateurs ( Pellecchia, 39). I chose the even as it is unique in combining this traditional theater with western theatrical performance.
Focus on poetic forms, mixed chorus and music makes the theatrical; performance unique
The two war veterans on opposing sides were friends and the performance highlights their experience, the war memories and duty. The performance begins with the veteran arriving at Gettysburg looking for the site where General Armistead died, as he holds a watch that Armistead gave to General Hancock. The veteran is the main actor and he encounters a groundskeeper who helps the veteran locate Armistead’s monument. It is the main actor who mainly wears the masks, and the masks allowed him to convey different facial expressions and show emotions in a controlled manner and communicate using the movements. There are facial expressions and impressions on emotional expression when using the Noh masks (Kawai, 2)
