Analysis of the Character Rick in the Film Casablanca
Casablanca was viewed as one of the best movies right from its release in the year 1942. However, the film can be well described as one of the best art films. The film consists of a series of netted stories that consist of the Axis Conquest of Europe that leads to the setting of the film in Casablanca where people are trying to reach Lisbon. Rick Blaine is a protagonist in the film and we first encounter him in his café where there is a man who is very impatient and wants to leave Casablanca. Rick was born in New York City and he later left for reasons that are unknown.
As the film progresses, we are informed of the relationship between Rick and Ilsa. However, the film still keeps us aware that the relationship revolves around the main part of the story which is, resistance, war and the planned escape. On his side, Rick develops a feeling that he was ditched by his lover Ilsa while in Paris and as such due to the bitterness he does not want to sell letters of transit to Laszlo. Since Laszlo does not have the letters, he is unable to leave and he finds obstacles in working for the resistance. Rick can be described as a man who is bitter about the incident that happened in Paris. This character is well revealed when Ilsa goes to him so that she can get the transit letters. She encourages him to do away with his feelings and consider the urgency of the letters. However, Rick does not listen to her and instead remains adamant. He does not even want to listen to what happened in Paris and this made Ilsa very angry and she tells him, “You want to f...
