Role of Financial Market
The article is about the role that is played by the financial intermediaries in the financial market of Ghana. According to statistics that were released in June 2015, there are 447 Microfinance institutions, 28 Universal licensed banks, 63 money lending companies, 27 Savings and loans co-operatives, 24 Finance Houses, 2 Leasing Firms and one Mortgage House in GhanaCITATION Nii16 \p p.1 \l 1033 (Nii p.1).
The article highlights that the financial markets are becoming a market for the intermediaries as compared to the traditional way in which it was a market for individuals and firms only. One of the main factors that have contributed to this radical change is the increased participation which means that most of them are withdrawing from the bank and beginning to rely on the intermediaries.
On their side, the financial intermediaries can be viewed as financial supermarkets where consumers can obtain a wide range of services from the same provider. Such services can be investment services, advice on matters of finance and also access to various insurance products.
The financial system of a country like Ghana is one of the strategies laid to enable the country to achieve its emerging financial status.
