When I look at people who are considered as successful leaders, I notice that all leaders have become successful in different ways. The truth is that there are many different leadership styles, and no single leadership style is the correct style. Garcia-Morales, Jimenez-Barrionuevo, and Gutierrez-Gutierrez (2012) identify that there are several leadership styles including authoritative, participative, transformational, charismatic, laissez-faire, situational, servant leadership, and others (1045). The leadership style that is right for me is transformational leadership. Good leadership involves showing followers how to perform the work for better results. This is what transformational leadership style entails. Moriano, Molero, Topa, and Mangin (2014) highlight that a transformative leadership style is an approach to empowering people to create higher performance (p.108). Transformational leadership boosts performance, motivation, and morale by developing a sense of purpose and identity of work and motivating them to embrace work and to contribute to it. A transformation leader acts as a role model who motivates and inspires others and empowers them to take greater ownership of performing their work. Transformative leadership is effective for a team because it is linked to individual performance, team performance, and lastly organizational performance. Strom, Sears, and Kelly (2014) explain that the transformational leadership is effective for a team because of the four cornerstones guiding it, such as inspirational motivation, individual consideration, idealized influence, and intellectual stimulation (p.74). This can be explained in a different way that a transformational leader knows his subordinates and shows concern for them, he empowers his subordinates to think for themselves, and he inspires his subordinates and motivates them to perform their tasks at best, and he is a great role model for his followers. Kelloway, Turner, Barling, and Loughlin (2012) present that a transformational leader continuously reminds his team members about the purpose of their tasks (p.47). He demonstrates integrity in all his working relationships. He sets high expectations, encourages others, offers recognition and support, empowers the team members to look beyond their personal interests, does the work to demonstrate the standards which he expects, and he is a model of fairness and integrity. Transformative leadership is a process in which the leader and his team raise each other to higher levels of motivation and morality.
What helps transformational leaders to hold out (stand firm) under pressure is that they are emotionally balanced leaders who have the ability to display the right emotions for a particular situation (be it under stress or pressure). They can read emotional state of others. They use their experience and provide thei...
