* Academic success – is generally defined as academic performance that is based from the student’s high scores in different standardized test. Its usage in the article does not include how the student apply theoretical knowledge in practical or real-life applications.
* Emotional Quotient (EQ) – Is defined as the student’s emotional capacity to be resilient despite the stressful circumstances that he faces in both the academe and his personal life. It is a standardized test for determining ‘emotional intelligence’.
* Extrinsic goal motivations – Are motivations which are usually practical, utilitarian, and external from one’s person. As compared to Intrinsic Goal Motivations (i.e., knowledge), Extrinsic Goals Motivation are sourced from external objects such as money, fame, and recognition, among others.
* PISA Scores – Refers to the standardized test also known as the ‘Program for International Student Assessment’.
* Success habits – refers to the five most common traits among successful students. Namely, these are (1) using time-management tools, (2) employing motivational tools, (3) seeking out friends, (4) frequent reading (hard work), and (5) developing a well-balanced lifestyle

Habits are important tools for the academic success of a student. On the one hand, good habits allow the student to be able to develop repetitive traits that would improve his learning capacity and knowledgeability of the lessons at class. On the other hand, bad habits could lead to a greater harm especially if not addressed as early as possible. In this article, several studies were analyzed in order to determine some of the most common habits that lead to academic success. After a perusal of several research done on the subject matter, the five (5) most common habits that were collated are (1) using time-management tools, (2) employing motivational tools, (3) seeking out friends, (4) frequent reading (hard work), and (5) developing a well-balanced lifestyle. Accordingly, the discussion of these five habits have shown that each habits are somehow interdependent with one another and that academic success can be achieved through a proactive approach in following trying to develop these habits wholly or separately.

Developing good habits for college students is difficult especially considering their need to balance their academic, social, and professional life. This difficulty then leads to sub-optimal learning systems that can then negatively affect the student’s learning approach. In this article, the five (5) most common habits of students who have achieved academic success (especially in getting high grades) were enumerated.
