Overview of the resource
The resource under consideration “Consent to Medical Treatment- Patient information” is an identical form for NSW health organizations. The form contains NSW health policy guidelines that establishes information sharing to patients as well as consent to medical treatment. The resource focuses on ensuring patients access satisfactory information to make informed decisions on whether to accept, seek second opinion or decline to treatments in a health facility. At a glance, the resource aims to enhance better communication and interaction between health providers and patients (Www1.health.nsw.gov.au, 2019).
Health providers are required to provide information concerning particular medical test, procedure or treatment plan to their patient before undertaking such interventions (Www1.health.nsw.gov.au, 2019). The resource is predominantly founded on the ethical and legal principle of patient autonomy in making their own medical decisions. In its best practice, medical practitioner should ensure that the patient has the capability of making their own decisions; health provider should unveil all the relevant information regarding treatment, test and procedure including benefits and material risks as well as the likelihood of the risks and benefits occurring; also the patient must be given a chance to understand the applicable facts and; willingly award consent devoid of coercion or duress (Sachdeva et al., 2018

Globally, including consumers in health service is a fundamental obligation in many states. Partnering with consumers dates back in the seminal 1978 affirmation of Alma Ata that depicted that consumers have a responsibility to participate in the planning of health service (Farmer et al., 2018). Consequently, this has contributed to a trajectory shift towards distinguishing health care providers as imminent associates in the health system. Research shows that effective consumer partnership helps in cultivating the quality, policy, revolution of the health products in the healthcare system (Gill & Gill, 2015). Typically, leaders in health care system are developing strategies that support affiliation between patients, caregivers and other stakeholders (Banfield et al., 2018; Farmer et al., 2018).
Consumers are a vital component in the continuous improvement of healthcare. Therefore, developing partnership with consumers and delivering patient-centered care is a suitable way of ensuring that patient care is exercised in a way that accommodates requirements and values of consumers (Farmer et al., 2018). Typically, healthcare that incorporates trusts can be of significant importance to patients, consumers, health facilities and health providers as well as health system (Lowe, et al., 2019). Moreover, effective partnerships contribute to progressive understandings to consumers and other stakeholders in all healthcare settings (Merner et al., 2019).
