Recommendations On The Need For Change
The introduction of the Swipe Card Debacle in the organization was not a bad idea. However, the process of impacting and implementing the change was wrong. It did not consider the effect of the switch on the employees (Smollan, 2015). Besides, they are the significant group bound to be affected by the change. Thus, their opinion matters about what affects them. The primary issue with the plans for using the Swipe Card Debacle is the lack of proper communication between the management and the employees (Heath, 2018). The management should have engaged all stakeholders before ultimate decision-making. If the administration had communicated the change to the workers, it would have known their stand (Dawson and Andriopoulos, 2014). Their reaction could have then resulted in implementing the right decision and ultimate prevention of the occurred disruption.
The employees felt that the company was ignoring them by making decisions that affect them without consulting their opinion. The organization is also known to have failed to fulfill the most promises made to the employees. British Airways is a significant and world-renowned organization that should not compromise its workers’ needs, considering its high levels of operations. Besides, the workers are substantial in the continuous success realized by the company, and they should not be neglected (Dawson and Andriopoulos, 2014). Ignoring their needs and rights resulted in the strike, and British Airways should make sure to prioritize their opinions before making significant decisions that could affect them and the working environment.
The strike regarding the use of the Swipe Card Debacle affected the organization negatively. Notably, the strike occurred at the peak season, where most people were supposed to be traveling for holidays and others going back to their home countries having visited London before the event. This change was right but was possibly implemented at the wrong time and through indecent channels. Thus, it could be a manipulation of employees because they also had a lot of workload in the busiest period (Rebeka & Indradevi, 2015). They should not be taken for granted because they play essential roles in achieving organizational goals and objectives. On the other hand, the passengers expecting to travel were disappointed, considering the prior reliability and efficiency they had experienced with the organization (Al-Haddad & Kotnour, 2015). The action was detrimental as the organization could lose a significant number of potential and retained clients.
The critical element is that the change did not consider the essential part of finding the drastic change’s impact and the possible alternatives. The primary consideration should have been the employee’s reaction towards the shift to the use of the Swipe Card Debacle (Bertram, Blase, & Fixsen, 2015). Besides, the most significant changes predicted an adverse reaction because the change was bound to impact them directly. British Airways should have considered issues such as lack of tactical and immediate actions in the case of emergencies like the stri...
