Research Question: What are the factors that have caused Europe not to produce any global digital champions like the FANGs (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google) of the USA and the BATs (Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent) of China.
Although Europe has a long history of innovation and many advantages, it has never produced any global digital platforms that can rival the FANGs and BATs from the USA and China. Many of the major technologies originated from outside Europe. Although Europe is considered the second-largest economy, after the United States and China, there are no considerations or indications that the country will become a global digital technology giant. Many factors have contributed to this trend. In order to determine these factors, it is important to use an effective research design that will give comprehensive and realistic information about this observed trend. As we can see from the research question, the aim is establishing the main factors that might have contributed to a lack of global technology innovations within Europe.
Cross-Sectional Survey Research Design
The most effective research design must provide a framework of the research methods and techniques that can be used to address the question. The best research approach is utilizing a cross-sectional survey research design. The cross-sectional survey method is essential because it offers researchers the opportunity to understand different factors and use statistical methods to analyze and draw meaningful conclusions from the research. In this regard, the analysis will establish the major factors that might have contributed to the lack of global digital technologies within Europe.
In order to get effective results, it is important to have a sampling method that will be used in the survey. This study's sampling plan would involve selecting all the key stakeholders, including scholars, policymakers, politicians, business leaders, and influencers in innovation hubs. Since the study focuses on Europe compared to the innovation in the United States and China, it is also important to include participants from China and other multinational corporations benefiting from the United States, Europe, and China's economy.
