Teamwork and performance management are crucial concepts that help to understand how to ensure that the organization is efficient and the employees are productive. A team is comprised of two or more individuals who are working towards a common goal, and they have to work together so that the organization is successful. Teamwork is integral in the smooth working of the organization (O'Neill & McLarnon, 2018). It is linked to performance management since this outlines how the team should work so that they achieve specific performance objectives. There is a wide array of key concepts and theories that cover teamwork and performance management, which are either modern or traditional/classical theories, and they have several similar and differentiating aspects.
Scientific management theory is regarded as a pioneer there in performance management and teamwork that was coined by Frederick Taylor. The theory suggests that the only way to reduce inefficacies is via systemic management (Morden, 2017). This relies on the analysis of workflows as a way to improve labor productivity and labor efficiency. The scientific management theory is also comparable to the administrative management theory and bureaucracy theory since they are all classical management theories. The scientific management theory emphasizes the need to improve employee performance through incentives rather than approaches, which entail trial and error (Schirmer & Michailakis, 2018). The administrative management theory outlines the importance of managers in an organization and how they should behave to ensure that business performance as expected. This means that a company needs an administrative structure that is formalized, delegation of power, authority of administrators, and clear division of labor. Henri Fayol coined the theory, and it is applicable to understand how managers should interact with employees. Specifically, an organization is comprised of several groups, and each group should be under the direction of a single manager (Schirmer & Michailakis, 2018). The bureaucracy theory also reveals the need for a leader in using reason rather than nep...
