The ‘form follows function’ slogan according to Louis Sullivan, determines an approach that architectures would use when designing and erecting skyscrapers. He believed that the shape of a building or object should follow the function it is to satisfy or the way of life, it would live. Further, the term ‘function’ referred to the life force a building would experience in a bid to fulfill its use in nature. He believed that skyscrapers were to be built tall and grand. However, for them to be useful in the modern world, their design should incorporate the purpose of the building thereby creating a practical and life essence design, such as the ornaments found in the Transportation Building in Chicago.[.
