A right to eat entails the families to fight to attain healthy food on the table. Food insecurity is a real threat that exists in the north faced by Canadian communities. However, these communities have a courageous against hunger and diseases. People in this region have the lowest income, which cannot cater for their daily meals. It has led to high grocery bills of up to 80% to the entire northern part. Furthermore, diabetes levels have increased to about 50% of endangering people’s lives. The local studies indicate that food insecurity has increased from 70% to 80%. It is a threatening issue to the national average.
The northern communities have poor diets and restricted access to healthy foodstuffs, as they end up starving. Insufficient food affects people both mentally and physical leading poor health conditions to the starving population. The food insecurity problem attracted the attention of media to help in public awareness as well as providing food support plan to the communities. The media provide support and funding of the Northern Healthy Food Initiative to generate their food from the ancestral skill. The support enabled the local communities to improve in gardening, fishing, farming, and hunting techniques.
