This response paper accentuates the history of modernist painting, according to Clement Greenberg. The article defines modernist as a period in the work of art, from the 1850s until his present-day when the tendency towards arts depicted a self-critical pattern. According to Green berg, Immanuel Kant was the typical modernist that ever existed because of his ability to devise approaches of the discipline, which could then be utilized to examine the discipline itself (Greenberg, and O'Brian 89). Greenberg credits Kant’s work because of his ability to formulate the limits of logic.
