Guadalupe Rosales. Literature Essay. Map Pointz and Veterans & Rucas

Essay Instructions:

Select at least 1 artist you are inspired by that we have looked at in class, or who is named in the syllabus. Find a monograph, exhibition catalogue or academic article on the artists work. Spend time with the artist's writing and other scholars / curators ideas and descriptions of this artist's work. If the artist does not have any books or essays ABOUT them and documenting their art, then look for artist lectures online or other possible materials. Wikipedia, art magazines, interviews on the internet is not enough for research: you must use the library. If you cannot find a book or article about the artist then think about the themes and histories the artist engages.
If you do not know how to find an academic essay or a book in the New School's library PLEASE go to the library and ask a reference librarian to show you how.
Write a 1 paragraph summary of your research, cite a quote, idea, work of art in particular with detailed description.
The selecting artist is Guadalupe Rosales, and the theme of this essay is something related to intervening in a system. So mainly focus on how does the artist use "system" in her works.

In the “Echoes of a Collective Memory/ Legends Never Die, A Collective Memory” Rosales has documented and exhibited her collection of the collective histories of Latino youth culture and their everyday experiences in the 90s. The artist intervenes by focusing on the shared histories of young Hispanics in East Los Angeles and Southern California, mostly young women. Rosales challenges people’s understanding of the Latino residents in Los Angeles including their personal and group experiences.[Terremoto, "Terremoto | Echoes of a Collective Memory", Terremoto, Last modified March 16, 2019, https://terremoto.mx/echoes-of-a-collective-memory/] [Janelle Zara.
