The movie Apocalypto highlights the life of the Mayan people before, during, and after colonization. It can be used as a way to study history and learn about cultures that existed before civilization. The Mayan people have been portrayed as primitive and savage in the movie, and this factor has raised numerous questions from different quotas. Native people have been exhibited as degenerates that do not care about social or political order. The movie begins when the natives are captured and passed through the forest to the Mayan city, where they could be slaves. This act is barbaric, and there are more horrific scenes that involve the torture of people to death. There is an administration system, but the governing laws are nonexistent, thus showing the uncivilized manner of governance in the Mayan social system.
