HIST 1301 has been one of the most informative courses I have ever read. Even though I learned many lessons in this course, one of the most surprising lessons was how slavery was dehumanizing, and people had to sacrifice much to end it. For instance, most whites previously believed that the skin subdivided the human race. Most of them used racism to declare their dominance over other individuals. It was surprising to find out that most people, including social scientists, college professors, and even some lawyers highlighting that people are racists by nature. This was evidence that these individuals were entirely hypocritical. This entitlement made most enslaved people suffer greatly. Furthermore, most enslaved people suffered to enjoy the freedom they were currently enjoying. Since most whites benefited from slavery, they employed measures that could make it hard for the enslaved people to fight for their lives. For example, the enslaved people did not have their rights, and those who could oppose their masters were punished to suppress them. The individuals who fought to end slavery suffered huge opposition; some even lost their lives. For example, one of the main reasons for Abraham Lincoln's assassination was his measures to end slavery. This instance shows how ending slavery was hard and called for determination and sacrifice.
