Asian American History:Dynamic Relationship between Structure & Agency
My understanding is: This paper is focusing on one of the two books (Milton Murayama’s All I asking for is my body OR Carlos Bulosan’s America is in the Heart), and based on the protagonist's experience, talk about the impact that the world or the time background brought to the protagonist.
The audiences are high school student who do not know the Asian American history, and the paper is a speech to persuade or convince your audience to think differently about the subject matter based on your own argument or perspective on an aspect of Asian American history. This isn't an actual speech.
The Essay prompt is: At start of the quarter, we learned about the dynamic relationship between structure and agency, which makes and animates history. For your paper, identify ONE major structural factor or process (i.e., political, legal, economic, or social) and analyze how it shaped or impacted the experiences of the protagonists in either Milton Murayama’s All I asking for is my body OR Carlos Bulosan’s America is in the Heart.
In addition to either the Murayama or Bulosan readings, your essay's evidence MUST draw from at least TWO other ASA 1 course readings assigned between Week 1 (March 29) and Week 5 (April 28) this quarter.
I will provide the additional readings, and there are many readings but pretty short, and you can choice two to support the argument.

Asian American History Based on America is in the Heart by Carlos Bulosan
Carlos Bulosan's autobiography, America is in the Heart, takes readers on a journey through his early years growing up in the Philippines in the 1920s to his adult years in the United States. Writing his autobiographical book, Bulosan switches back and forth between talking about his own experiences and bigger issues that affect Filipino immigrants before World War II. America is in the Heart has four main parts. Throughout the narrative, the author starts with her rural experiences where Allos lives on a farm in the Philippines. We also see the financial struggles they underwent during this period, and it was during this period that he was forced to work on the farm and was never allowed to be a child. The author also uses the main protagonist, Allos, to fuse his own experiences and an idealized picture of the immigrants living in the United States.
