Deciding which career is right for an individual is sometimes a daunting task due to the availability of several career options. It is a challenging task for a person to narrow down to one profession that best suits them from thousands of career options. Thus, it is crucial to conduct thorough research to obtain a better understanding of general responsibilities, requirements, and ultimately, the compatibility of the desired career with one’s interests, personality, and strengths. This saves time and resources in the long run.
My desired future profession is in the field of business and financial occupations. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook by the US department of labor, employment in this field is estimated to grow by 7% in the next ten years, which is equivalent to the creation of 591,800 jobs in addition to the current jobs. Some of the factors that will contribute to the growth include the growing economy, globalization, and complex tax and regulatory laws as well as increased usage of data and the need for market research.
My desired career is human resource management. Human resource managers are mandated with recruiting, screening, interviewing, and placing employees in their respective job positions. In addition, they are responsible for compensation, training, and relations, among others. Some of the better-paying organizations include information service firms, brokerage, and security companies, film sector, and financial services (Saint Mary's University). Moreover, unlike in the past when human resource employees were only involved in recruiting and training the labor force, their roles have evolved. Managers in this sector usually participate in the strategic planning of an organization. More rules and regulations governing safety, affordable, and occupational health, and equal opportunity have been introduced, which have led to a rise in educational levels and skills required for human resource managers.
Having looked at the outlook of my desired career, I believe that my chances to succeed in this profession are higher because jobs in this field will be abundant, and salary is bound to continue increasing. In addition, the responsibilities highlighted in the Occupational Outlook Handbook augment well with my strengths, skills, and personality, which will play a crucial role in my career development. In addition, job security is another benefit of working as a human resource. It becomes hard for a company to get rid of their human resource manager during general company layoffs because they have a better understanding of their systems. They have comprehensive knowledge of a company’s procedures, policies, and laws regarding the management of human resources. Thus, job security is one of the greatest benefits of w...
