Then type “1.00” in the “at” box to the right of the “Line spacing” selector, then click “OK.”  3- Can I write more than two pages? Yes.   4- Do I need to cite my sources? Yes, you need to include a third page (or different page number if you write more than two pages) with your references. You do not need a reference for the Occupational Handbook but you will need references for any additional information not found on that site. Chicago Style of citations. Remember that plagiarism will be penalized with an “F” letter grade in the course.  5- Can I submit my paper electronically? No. You need to bring a physical copy of your paper to class. My desired future occupation is that of a financial analyst, otherwise known as a securities analyst or investment analyst. A financial analyst specializes in understanding investment vehicles such as stocks, bonds, currencies, commodities or any other investment instruments to advise businesses and individuals on the most appropriate investment opportunities. They are an important piece of the economic machinery that helps keep in motion the flow of funds from owners of capital to employers of capital.
A financial analyst can make recommendations on individual investments or a group of individual investments collectively known as a portfolio. However, a considerable amount of research goes into a single recommendation, demanding the application of a set of skills by the analyst. Financial analysts are required to understand their current economic and business environments by being up-to-date on popular trends. Once, a potential investment opportunity is identified they should be capable of performing a valuation that allows them to place a monetary value on the investment. This process involves analyzing financial statements of companies which means accounting knowledge is key. Other duties include meeting up with the management of companies to create a better understanding of their prospects. Finally, they should able to communicate their findings to relevant stakeholders by compiling comprehensive reports on their findings.
Several types of financial analysts exist depending on their role or experience in a company. Amateur analysts specialize in a specific industry or geographical region. Experienced analysts can be portfolio managers. Ratings analyst appraise the ability of companies or governments to repay their debts. Risk analysts assess and manage the risk potential of investments to mitigate losses. Fund managers are established analysts who solely run hedge funds and mutual funds. Furthermore, analysts can be categorized as buy-side analysts or sell-side analysts. Buy-side analysts work for large institutions that have considerable amounts of capital to deploy and are therefore intending to purchase investments recommended by this type of analyst. Sell-side analysts, on the other hand, advise others on what securities to buy, especially from the institutions they work for such as investment banks.
Most analysts work in the most prominent financial hubs of a country. The work environment is normally that of an office but analysts regularly travel. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 329,000 financial analyst jobs were in existence. They also worked 40 hours each week, however, since a typical day may involve telephone calls and meetings with managers they might have to do their research at home.[Bureau of Labor Statistics Website]
Educational requirements include a degree but for better job prospects one may acquire a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certificate or a master's in finance or business administration.
