“Bad Guy by Billie Eilish released in 2019
“Bad Guy” was released in March 2019 by an American singer called Billie Eilish. According to the lyrics of the song, the musician taunts her lover for the fact that he is a bad guy and suggests that she is more resilient than her lover. The song was a big commercial success topping charts in many different countries including the US, Russia, Canada, Finland, and Australia among others. One social factor depicted in the song is women's success in a world dominated by male actors. One musically interesting moment in the song is in the chorus where the singer says, “I’m that bad type, make your mama sad type.” By this, the singer exerts her authority in a manner that portrays her as a powerful and tough woman who can act in worse ways than a man in relation to her space in life (Edwards & Hadley, 2007).
The song “Bad Guy” connects to the topic “Music and Women’s Rights” in that the singers come out to challenge men and especially the tough ones or ones who may be bullish against women. She claims that she can act in tougher ways than her lover which reflects her strong femininity and adds to the course of women’s rights by stopping men who would want to advance social injustice against women to know that they can have a match in women.”
