GMs sometimes face difficult decisions when they are employed by a management company and operate a branded hotel. In such situations, the GM’s loyalty can be tested because of the conflicting interests of staff, guests, the brand, the management company, and the hotel’s owners. Consider a situation in which the financial interests of two (or more) of these groups directly conflict. What would be in the best interests of each party in your example? General Managers are constantly faced with the need to manage almost all the aspects of a hotel. A hotel like any other business is associated with a myriad of staffs at different levels and business obligation from the different departments. For a general manager balancing the act between managing the expectations of the clients, staffs, the owners and the government agencies, can be an uphill task. As such they have to decide where their loyalties lie relative to the goals and objectives they have set for a certain period with the available resources.
