Stephen levy focuses on the Enterprise Edition of the Google Glass technology. In his works' Google Glass 2.0: Is a Startling Second Act', he emphasizes on the need of enterprises to adopt the technology. He vividly explains the unsuccessful debut of the Google Glass explorer edition in his works of 2017. What started as a computer hovering over the eye with no particular functions soon became a revolutionary workplace device. The Glass launched in 2017, is a wearable optical device that aims at improving productivity, decreasing time used, and reduces workplace errors. Developed to replace the consumer-friendly version that the public rejected because of privacy issues, the Glass continues to grow with several enterprises embracing it. The audience of the text is the enterprise world. The author has the intention to influence them to incorporate the technology into their working environment. The author connects with the audience through growth predictions, his experience, and comments from enterprises already using the technology.
Google Glass resembles the standard eyeglasses but is much lighter. It consists of the frame, a processor, and the optical display. Each part uniquely made of several raw materials that determine its function. Since they come from durable and light titanium, the plastic frames keep the Glass secure around the head. On the other hand, the processor has a plastic coat and comes from silicon, copper, copper sulfate, and germanium. Finally, the optical display, which is the main feature of the Glass, consists of silicon, cholesterol liquid crystal, and liquid crystal on silicon (Ideker, 2014, para.5-9). The most exciting part is that the Glass optical display the ability to be fitted with prescription lenses for those people with eye problems (Levy, 2017, para.8). The beautiful device located on the facial part of the body has different specifications that improve its efficiency. The camera takes photos and videos while the secure Wi-Fi beefs up connectivity. The battery has a long life lasting through a minimum of eight working hours (Levy, 2017, para.9). The most distinctive feature of the Glass is the fact that it is hand free. Driven by voice command, the device is best suited for workers who need hand free computing assistance.
Levy illustrates how Google Glass works with an example from the AGCO factory. The Glass spells out steps and guidelines on the optical display. The menu enables the worker to move to the next level, and they can easily say 'okay' signaling movement to the next step. That is the essence of the voice recognition specification and the touchpad. Some workers swipe while others prefer to speak to the Glass. Workers use the Glass for assembling because it tells them where each part should go, what is needed, and what is in the wrong place. The uniqueness of the feature is when it takes a picture of the damaged parts for the workers viewing. Glass tells them what kind of bolt is needed—a wrong-sized bolt could severely damage motor—and specifies which wrench to use and how much torque is required (Levy, 2017, para.13). Typically, the Glass does th...
