In your paper, you're going to explore some of the technological underpinnings of the Internet and Web 2.0, and understand what is about current information tools that make them particularly potent facilitators of existing and potential social networks. Social networking itself is, of course, as old as humanity itself—but it is not until recent times that technologies specifically focused on the creation and expansion of social networks have come to prominent public attention—to the point where they, arguably, have fundamentally reshaped the information environment. How many of us would like to return to the Bad Old Days of a decade ago, when user concerns were of only minimal interest, most of the Internet still featured one-way information distribution, "friends" were people we actually knew, and dancing cat videos were few and far between. Well, perhaps the latter two aspects still have some merit—but going back from an Internet where users are equal if not more important as content providers and participants of interest to the old one-way channels and Information gods is unlikely to ring many chimes.

Web technology has evolved since its inception, but scholars and practitioners do not understand the differences between Web 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. It is the reason why this paper discusses the difference between 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. To begin with, Web 1.0 was the first Web service in the market. Critical to the discussion is the fact that Web 1.0 was a read-only Web that was beneficial to E-Commerce Website owners than website users (Choudhury, 2014). Further, Web 1.0 limited users' interaction or content contribution, because it only provided website owners with an online platform for sharing information with consumers.
It is notable that there emerged a global demand for an interactive Web among internet users. As a result, in October 2004, Web 2.0 was introduced leading to the growth of social networks and bi-directional communications. This in turn increased users' interaction and content contribution (Aghaei et al., 2012). Although there were no new technological modifications done to develop this Web, Web 2.0 enhanced, collaboration, blogging, group participation, and active involvement among the Web users. As evidence, Web 2.0 led to the emergence of Face book, Wiki, YouTube, and Flickr (Goodfellow and Maino, 2010).
The Arab-Spring that erupted in 2011 in Tunisia is a good example of the impact Web 2.0 on the global society. This owes to the reality that sites such as Facebook and Twitter enlightened Tunisians about democracy, which in turn led to a revolution against a dictatorial governments. As a result, countries such as Turkey and Tunisia became democratic. The same sites also led to a revolution in Egypt but the country is not yet democratic. Additionally, it is estimated that 1.5 billion people are active users of Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter (Netzley, and Rath, 2012). Consequently, more devices have become connected to the Web such as smart phones, tablets, and household appliances (Andriole, 2010).
