The insurance industry has become very competitive and it’s only businesses that have taken efforts to understand their consumers that survive and witness immense profitability. As such, life insurance companies are continuously engaging in data mining and profiling (Baase, 2013). These practices involve the analysis of consumer profiles to not only determine and understand their behaviors but also to estimate their life expectancy. They examine aspects such as the types of foods they consume, their involvements in exercises and overall, whether they engage in any risky habits such as smoking and drinking. However, these companies collect these personal and private details without the consent or knowledge of their target consumers.
