When you have completed the review of the literature, please compose a 2-5 page paper that will combine your reaction and analysis of the materials and answer the following questions: "Is Cloud Computing a better Platform for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery?" Assignment Expectations: Your paper should be short (3-5 pages, not including cover sheet and references) and to the point. You are expected to: - Begin this paper by stating your main position on this question clearly and concise. - Be sure that you include an outline of what you see as the main elements of a good business continuity and disaster recovery plan - Consider the technical, economic, and managerial implications for applying cloud computing for business continuity plans and disaster recovery. Does cloud computing provide the main elements needed for a good BCP and DR and at what cost? - Address the advantages/disadvantages of applying cloud computing for BCP and DR. - Citing appropriate sources, present the reasons why you take this position. Be sure to make the most effective case you can. - Then present the best evidence you can, again citing appropriate sources, against your position -- that is, establish what counterarguments can be made to your original position. - Finally, review your original position in light of the counterarguments, showing how they are inadequate to rebut your original statement. By the end of your paper, you should be able to unequivocally re-affirm your original position. You will be particularly assessed on: - Precision: Your draw on a range of sources, and to establish your understanding of the historical context of the question. You carried out the exercise as assigned, or carefully explained the limitations that might have prevented your completing some parts (running out of time isn't generally considered an adequate limitation). - Support for assertions: You use examples, citations (especially to the required readings), and elaboration to support assertions. You provide evidence that you have read the required background materials. - Clarity: Your answers are clear and show your good understanding of the topic. You see what the module is all about and to structure your paper accordingly. - Breadth and Depth: The scope covered in your paper is directly related to the questions of the assignment and the learning objectives of the module. - Critical thinking: The paper incorporates YOUR reactions, examples, and applications of the material to business that illustrate your reflective judgment and good understanding of the concepts. It is important to read the "required readings" posted in the background material plus others you find relevant. Your informed commentary and analysis is vital -- simply repeating what your sources say does not constitute an adequate paper. - Overall quality: Your paper is well written and the references, where needed, are properly cited and listed.

Cloud Computing as a Platform for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
Introduction
Cloud computing is a system that enables a suitable network access to a common collection of configured computing assets such as servers and other appliances. It is considered a disruptive technology that provides cost reduction through efficient computing. From architectural dimension, there is some confusion in how cloud computing is similar or different from existing models of computing and how these differences or similarities affect an organization’s operations and approach to information security practices. Therefore, there exists a very thin line between cloud computing and conventional computing. However, it is vital to note that cloud computing will have a positive impact to organizational and technological approach to network security, data security, and information security. Therefore, cloud computing is a good platform for business continuity and disaster recovery.
Although most software companies have embraced cloud computing, many prospective users are yet embrace cloud computing. Moreover, the key organizations that use cloud computing are mostly hesitant to put their crucial data in the cloud due to lack of control in cloud computing (Wood, et al., 2010).This has encouraged cloud providers to employ more measures for data security.
In disaster recovery, one of the main elements that should be identified is a location that is required for restoring the technology, the people, processes and other things that make up an organization. When looking for locations, the three types of locations include cold site, warm site, and hot site. A cold site is a location that has no infrastructure or assets and hence requiring you to bring that in the time of recovery. Conversely, a warm site has some infrastructure that can be used in a disaster. A hot site has all the necessary infrastructure required in the data recovery process (Wood, et al., 2010).
Another key element in data recovery is technology and third party management. In case a disaster happens, you should ensure you have a repository that has the right software with the necessary applications that can be helpful during a disaster. Crisis management and communications are also vital elements for disaster recovery since they assist in the overall recovery process (NIST, 2011). Effective communication will enable you engage integral employees and external stakeholders and other external agencies during disaster recovery. Ideally, it is also paramount to practice often on what should be done in case of a disaster. This can be done through tabletop exercises, which are simulations of a real data disaster. In addition, a good succession plan will enable an organization to implement other plans if a disaster happens when the database administrator is not ther...
