From what you observed from the DVD during this phase of group, how ready are you to deal with intense feelings that members might bring out in a group? What value do you see in the expression of emotions in a group? Up to this point, what are some of the main lessons that you are learning about how to best facilitate interaction among the participants in a group? The section on Darren's work with re-experiencing his childhood pain is a very powerful, emotional sequence. What therapeutic value, if any, do you see in Darren's crying? How do you feel about men showing emotions, and how would this have influenced your intervention with Darren?
Think about your course project group (the group you are leading on your own). What role, if any, does the expression of strong emotions, especially through tears, have in your group? If strong emotions and/or transference is a part of the groups you lead, how do you usually react as the leader? What is the appropriate role of strong emotions in your group? As you think of your course project group, are there ways group members are likely to hurt one another? What interventions can you use to prevent needless hurt without sacrificing the depth of emotional exploration?

The video in chapter four portrays various stages of group evolution. They include the initial, transition, working, and ending phases. After watching the video and reading the entire chapter, I am ready to address intense feelings that group members might depict in a team. I have come to realize that the most significant thing to handle individuals in a group is emotional intelligence. The expression of emotions make people free and to be comfortable in how they relate to each other in a team. The most significant way to facilitate interaction among group participants is through teambuilding activities where members put their differences aside and do things together. Darren’s crying is therapeutic since it allowed an individual to make peace with the past painful childhood experiences. Men should not shy off to express their emotions, particularly by crying. The failure to cry when expressing a person’s feelings does not mean that one is strong inside.
