Wine is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting juice of grapes. Normally, wine can be made using any fruit but most of the wines are made using wine grapes. There are more than eighty varieties of grapes grown in the vineyard region of Washington otherwise known as Washington Wine Country (Hamilton, 2001). However, the most used grapes in wine production are from the Vitis vitera family of grapes that include Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay. This paper is meant to address wine in Washington.
Nationally, Washington wine industry is number two after California wine industry. Washington owes it success in wine production to its viticulture with more than fifty thousand acres of wine grapes and approximately eight hundred wineries. The top wine growing areas in Washington State are like the best wine growing regions of Spain, Australia and the central valley of California, this makes Washington industry one of the best industries globally.
Washington wines which are made using the local grapes are among the best wines in the world. Different wines made using different wine grapes satisfy the needs of different wine lovers. The local wines have been improved for the past thirty years by winemakers who have refused to give up and are therefore of the best quality. They are tasty, soft and tempting to people’s palates.
