Insofar as arson investigations are concerned, Thomas May (2010) manages to articulately demonstrate the massive fallibility of the investigations techniques and ‘sciences’ that have been relied upon for investigation. According to the article, it is quite clear that understanding fire is fundamental to making accurate conclusions regarding fires and the processes that caused them. In this way, individuals can understand and effectively determine whether a fire was accidental or a case of arson.
However, the techniques that are significantly relied on in arson investigations and cases are mediocre at the very least and fail to provide a substantive picture of a fire, what caused it, and how it progressed.
