"The Other side of Immigration" by Roy Germano
The film is based on questions that are conducted over 700 interviews asking why so many Mexicans were living their country in order to work in the U.S. However, Roy is concerned about what happens to the families that are left in Mexico. The film maker aims to establish on the reasons as to why the immigrants flocked in the United States at this period of time. Besides, Roy portrays Mexico as a country that was experiencing economic meltdown and this subjected most of its citizens to poverty and many other hardships. This condition in Mexico was also contributed by the North America Free Trade Agreement and the corrupt government that was in power during that time.
Moreover, Roy talks about the need for the guest-workers in order to control the immigration to the U.S. that was motivated by the economic necessity in the immigrant’s countries. However, others argued that even though the immigrant’s came to the U.S. to seek for labor opportunities, on the other hand they also impacted a lot to the economy of the U.S. through increment of the tax revenue, they also satisfied the high demand for the low skilled laborers that was in need in this particular period of time. The immigrants program was also flexible for those who preferred that they would work in the U.S. temporarily and then jet back to their country after making some good money.
Multicultural Characters portrayed
From the film, it is evident that Roy brings out different multicultural characters in the U.S. In this regard, the Mexicans had also to live with these kinds of cultures that they found in the U.S. moreover, the immigrants came with a number of cultures and traditions but later their cultures had to erode and being absorbed by the U.S. culture. There were formations of new laws that were too overseeing and govern the immigrants that were in the U.S. at this time. The numbers of the immigrants was increasing at a higher rate and therefore the U.S. government had to come up with laws that could protect the right of immigrants and even to control the rising number (Amado, 2006).
