Just like Webster dictionary, “National Continuity Policy Implementation Plan defines Continuity of Operations (COOP) as an effort within discrete executive departments and agencies with intent to ensure that Primary Mission-Essential Functions remain to be performed during a wide array of tragedies, including localized acts of nature, technological, and or accidents." ("Continuity of Operations Programs (COOP)," 2016).
The main goal of continuity in the executive branch remains to be the continuation of National Essential Functions (NEFs) ("Continuity of Operations Programs (COOP)," 2016).For attaining the achievement, the core objectives for the organizations so as to identify their Essential functions and certify that those can be carried through or resumed instantly after a disruption of ordinary activities.
As a COOP Coordinator in an agency, I will ensure that reconstitution is following the right procedures. And if not I will make due adjustments so as to ensure that the agency resumes and maintains its normal operations. Regularly assessing the status of the afflicted personnel, assets, and other facilities ("Continuity of Operations | FEMA.gov," 2016)
Additionally, as an agency coordinator, I will develop and maintain the COOP capabilities using multi-year strategy. Also, the deployment of the management plan as well as restructuring and adjusting essential functions, resources as well as redefining short and long term goals and objectives so as to meet the dynamic needs of the business ("Federal Continuity Directive 1 (FCD 1) 2012 | FEMA.gov", 2016).
Finally, I will devolve the control and direction systems with transferring statutory authority and responsibility for essential functions from my agency'sprincipal operating staff so as to ensure that the agency keeps abreast with the due operation even if it becomes inoperable ("Business Continuity Plan | Ready.gov," 2016). The devolution is mainly aimed at theextension of services for continued operations.
In conclusion, Continuity planning is a good business practice of safeguarding the execution of crucial functions and a fundamental obligation of public and private operational entities responsible to their stakeholders.
