The bill of rights sometimes called the declaration of rights, or the charter of rights is a list, which consists of the most fundamental rights of the citizens of a nation or country. The bill of rights originated from England following the Glorious Revolution. It was acted out by the parliament in 1689 following the revolution so as to protect those rights of the citizens against violation from private citizens and public officials. This paper describes the bill of rights, including its purpose and contents.
The major purpose of the bill of rights was the ratification of the constitution. The bill of rights is ratified to protect the states’ rights, and unnamed rights of the citizens. Limitation of Government was another reason of the bill of rights, in fear of tyranny and oppression of the government. Another purpose is to call leaders into action by returning into the constitution for guidance when rulers want more power. As mentioned earlier, the bill of rights is a list with the content of rights. These contents include the first ten amendments to the U. S. constitution, (1) Freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition; (2) Rights to bear, and keep arms; (3) Housing of soldiers; (4) Freedom from unreasonable searches, and seizures, (5) Rights in criminal cases; (6) Rights of a fair trial; (7) Rights in civil case; (8) Freedom from excess bail, fines, and punishment; (9) Other people’s rights; (10) Powers retained by the states, and people.
