Once the United States (U.S.) severed all trade relations with China, it started on a path that would lead it to lose its position as the world’s most powerful country. For years, the U.S. has enjoyed this position. However, due to its increasing debt, population, and poor leadership, the country is on a downward spiral. China, on the other hand, has improved its status on the world stage by correcting its spending, inventing new technologies, and exercising good leadership. Still, China is not just a country. It is the world’s largest conglomerate. At least 70% of the world is dependent on goods produced in China. Even the U.S. itself has, over the years, benefited from cheap Chinese products. Without these cheap products, the U.S. will have to make its own. Even if the U.S. manages to replace cheap Chinese products with its own, it will still be far away from beating China’s world’s market share. As this paper will show, the U.S. does not have a stronghold on the world like China has today, which only means that China is on its way to becoming the next superpower.
It is a fact that many U.S. products have no market outside the country. On the one hand, America produces some of the most sophisticated products, including machinery, vehicles, and mobile phones. However, these products never seem to attract as many buyers due to their high price. On the other hand, China produces the cheapest products in the world. As a result, people from all around the world tend to buy them because they can afford them. This alone has enabled China to acquire a significant share of the world market. By cutting trade relations with China, the U.S. means to compete against China in the production of fast-moving consumer goods. However, it is a fact that the U.S. does not have a market outside the country for fast-moving consumer goods. Furthermore, American manufacturers would not be willing to produce cheap products for sale. Also, unlike China, they do not have access to the cheap labor and resources required to produce cheap products on a large scale. In the end, only one power can emerge, and in this case, it is most likely to be China.
The U.S. must have made its greatest strategic blunder by cutting trade relations with China. The end of the trade with China was followed by the departure of American companies based in China. This might have created an economic shortfall for China in the short-term, but it will affect the U.S. even more in the long-term. For years, U.S. companies have depended on the cheap labor and resources available in China. This way, they have been able to base their factories in the Asian country. Americans would not be willing to work for the significantly low wages that some Chinese citizens are paid to work in American factories.
