Marijuana is the most politicized drug despite the numerous benefits associated with it. Even though those in support of it legalization dismiss some of its potential dangers, I believe that marijuana use needs to be controlled. Marijuana is more of a recreational drug, but the societal changes have resulted in its prohibition. The question is why it was in the 20th-century marijuana was made illegal. Marijuana debate has been intense, that is why only 20 states and the District of Columbia have legalized the drug for medical purposes only.
If marijuana smokers are responsible individuals and present no threat to another citizen, why is it that young people are arrested for lethargic behavior? It is a fact that young people experiment with drugs like marijuana resulting to increased violence and crime. Marijuana is dangerous because it leads to abuse of other hard drugs like heroin and cocaine that motivates young people to engage in crime (Wright & Metts, 2016). The big question is if there has never been a single human death attributed to a health problem caused by marijuana why are gun purchases or other permits denied to medical marijuana users. Why minor children are removed from a home, in which medical marijuana is used?

If the physiological and psychological effects related to marijuana use are less damaging than other popular substances, why is it that people who use marijuana experience increased heart rate during ingestion? Why do marijuana users experience acute psychological reaction like paranoia and increased anxiety?
