1. What does Yancy mean when he says that all men are sexist, or that all white people are racist?
George Yancy makes it clear that all men are sexist and that all white individuals are racist. Yancy means that males perceive females as an inferior gender, and they benefit from a system that considers women as the second choice after men (Yancy, 2015). Similarly, white people have been brought in a society that suppresses black individuals in different ways. For this reason, they are automatically racist, whether they befriend African Americans or not.
2. What is the difference between overt and systemic racism? What does it mean to be "anti-racist?"
Overt racism refers to the open discrimination of black people by white individuals. For example, many are the times when African American drivers are stopped on highways by traffic officers and frisked while their white counterparts go undisturbed. On the contrary, systemic racism involves the privileges that one gets from belonging to a specific race (Yancy, 2015). For instance, many organizations would better hire a white person who is less qualified as compared to a black individual who is highly skilled.
3. What is the definition of “tarrying,” and what is the significance of “tarrying” with racism?
According to Yancy, tarrying means to think critically and see the truth behind something that one might have denied for an extended period.
