Psychology of Extremism and Terrorism
The primary breeding ground for extremist terrorists emanates from harsh emotional and physical deprivation of fear, poverty and starvation including humiliation, prejudice and their disenfranchisement from authority and power. In their efforts to eradicate these sufferings, psychologists have the capacity to establish the pains that individuals who resort to terrorism face and that result in extensive agitation (Borum, 2014). However, the physiology of extremism provides a deep understanding that establishes the essence of studying personality dynamics of extreme terrorists. This helps in depicting their motivations and rationale behind their efforts to join such groups and to commit violent acts.
On the other hand, the psychology of extremism draws particular interests on the terrorist’s decision making processes, group mindsets, issues that relate with leadership, and authority as some of the tools that exhibit pressure on individuals who choose to be terrorists (Borum, 2014). Additionally, it is significant to establish that the psychology of extremism critically analyses the behaviors of terrorists in understanding the stems of these activities and the decisions of these individuals to engage in such unlawful acts.
