As an American leader, I consider the Syrian political situation to be worsening. Since the withdrawal of American troops, there have been fresh attacks between rival groups in the war-torn nation. The persistent attacks have led to more war casualties in Syria. Moreover, there is no indication that the disputed Syrian government headed by Bashar Al-Assad will reach a compromise with the determined rebel forces. However, as the war continues, political instability increases in this region, an element that undermines US interest in the Middle East (“Russia and Turkey begin joint patrols in northeast Syria, 2019”). Continued conflict in Syria destabilizes global peace due to the proliferation of various destructive weapons in the area. For instance, both the rebel groups and the Assad regime have shown the willingness to use lethal weapons against civilians. The continued reckless attacks in the region undermine adherence to international human rights principles. Therefore, as a US leader, the Syrian upheavals remain a significant challenge to the nation.
The focus is to curtail foreign involvement in the Syrian fiasco. Notably, Turkey continues to conduct cross border patrols in northern Syrian territory. Throughout the conflict, Turkey has shown its willingness to use military power to reaffirm its interests in Syria. Furthermore, Turkey continues to offer rebels, Syrian groups, sizeable military support an element that promotes confrontation between the Syrian government and the rebel groups('Historic? new Syria talks should focus on relief for war-weary civilians, says UN negotiator, 2019). Notably, Russia is equally involved in the Syrian crisis.
