The U.S President has recently signed an order meant to make it hard for foreign skilled workers from obtaining visas that enable them to work in the U.S. The said rule has also led to banning of contractors with a foreign nationality from winning bids on government projects (Glenn Thrush, 2017). This law comes under the slogan “Buy American, Hire American” which was promised by Donald Trump during his campaign.
This rule is seeking to reduce the abuse of the H-1B visa program. Most technology companies depend heavily on this program to ensure that most international students who learn in the U.S remain in the country after completing their degrees to fill the lack of enough workers in America. The order also enforces guidelines to be used by the government to ensure that American firms get high priority in the awarding of federal projects.
