Use of Force Rules - Detroit
The article Detroit police board revises use of force rules, OKs ban on chokeholds by Hicks (2020) highlights some of the policy changes made on police force amid the protest crises against police within Michigan state and the US as a whole. The changes bar police officers from using chokeholds while maintaining law and order. They are also required to step in when their colleague exerts an unwarranted force to a suspect (par. 1). Such uncultured and inhuman behaviors by police officers breed anger and hatred toward the police force. Engaging in peaceful protests to denounce such undertaking by police officers is becoming the norm, and everybody ought to participate.
When one is engaging in a protest, the likelihood of being caught on the wrong side of the law or ever being brutalized by a police officer is high. The article, by highlighting the various reforms the police department of Detroit city has made on the police force, creates awareness on such issues. The reforms are es...
