As of 2021, about 14% of Singapore’s population is 65 years and above, projected to increase to 25% by 2030 (Idris, 2021). To address the challenges an aging population poses, Singapore has implemented a comprehensive eldercare system that provides a range of services to support seniors’ well-being and quality of life. Singapore has a network of nursing homes and assisted living facilities for seniors who require round-the-clock care (Chia & Cynthia Chen, 2020). These facilities provide a safe and supportive environment for seniors who need intensive medical and social care. They offer various services, including nursing care, rehabilitation, social activities, and therapy.
Discussion
Analysis of Eldercare Centres and Service Providers
Implementing the new layout will likely increase the workload of service providers at eldercare centers. These service providers must ensure they have the necessary resources and workforce to serve the visitors and care services of all seniors who visit the center (MOH, 2020). Similarly, the new service may also have financial implications for service providers at eldercare centers. While the government has stated that it will provide financial support to help attendants implement the new service, additional costs may still be associated with providing primary medical and maintenance services to all seniors. By providing essential medical and care services to all seniors who visit the center, attendants can identify and address health issues earlier, reducing the need for more complex and expensive treatments in the future. This may also lead to improved health outcomes for seniors, enhancing the reputation of eldercare centers and attracting more clients in the long run.
