America is a multicultural society. The blend of different cultures has contributed to the significant diversity observed in all contexts of the American society. Italians, Germans, African Americans, Hispanics and Indians are some of the cultures in the American society. Well, their contributions have been significant to the growth of the American nation. However, the cultures have faced difficulties, for example, stereotyping and discrimination (Sandufer, Campbell, & Eggerling-Beck, 2004). Hence, the American society has used each group’s culture to construct a group identity. While every culture has its identity, historical facts, injustices and perceptions led to the development of group identity. It is so due to the coming together, staying together and isolation of these cultures, either through their will or discrimination. Creation of group identity, therefore, through stereotypes such as the perception of African Americans being criminals, or slaves, such stereotypes is not accurate (Sandufer, Campbell, & Eggerling-Beck, 2004).
