Read Introduction page xviii in the Career Fitness Program textbook - 11 major trends in the workplace and respond to the following questions. (In case you do not yet have the book this week, a PDF scan of this reading is included in the Week 1 folder)
1. List any major trends that you are surprised to see and briefly explain why. If there are no surprises, explain why.
The majority of jobs are created by small businesses. I thought that the available opportunities depend on the size of the business.
Smaller companies grow by employing large freelance companies. I thought that the opposite of this is true if the smaller companies are the ones that create employment opportunities.
Global competitions and multinational competitions will influence more companies. I thought that this would create an opportunity for increased sales and profits.
2. Pick 3 major trends that directly impact you and briefly describe the ways each trend may impact you.
Trend number eleven. That boundaries of work life is changing. I think that this is making it difficult for new graduates to secure employment. I will be affected by this trend.
Workers are increasingly looking for meaning and purpose. If each worker is working on this, then it may be impossible to secure employment.
Those entering the workforce should be ready to change their careers. Why should I study when I know that I will change my career?
