Peter Blau developed an analysis of the role of power and norms of legitimating and how it shapes groups. Blau focused on building theoretical concepts that linked sociological studies of everyday activities among individuals and those studies those studies that examined collective dimension of the society including political and social aspects of human interaction (Cook et al., 2013). Blau pointed out that a person whom has received a favor is expected to be grateful and return the favor when the need arises. Such exchange is viewed as a significant process among groups. People act rationally employing such exchange in pursuit of traditional ends. For example, members of a political organization may exchange support to promote solidarity (Cook et al., 2013).
