For this class, you will be applying the concepts from the background materials to your own experiences in the workplace. More specifically, you will be examining the decisions and decision-making processes of the leadership of the organization you currently work for or one that you have worked for in the past.
For this first assignment, think about some major and minor decisions made by your managers that you were involved with or impacted by. Review the background material concepts, and think carefully about how you have personally observed some of these concepts. Then write a 2- to 3-page paper addressing the following issues:
Give some specific examples of strategic and operational decisions that you have observed in your workplace. Give at least one example of each type of decision, and explain why you think this decision falls into this category with references to the background materials.
Give some specific examples of both programmed and non-programmed decisions that you have observed. Give at least one example of each type of decision, and explain why you think this decision falls into this category with references to the background materials.
Discuss the specific decision-making style of a supervisor you have worked closely with, and discuss whether this supervisor’s style is rational or intuitive. Give specific examples to explain your reasoning as to why you think this supervisor is rational or intuitive.

The Decision-making process heavily relies on the need for the decision as well as its expected results. Decision-making is a necessary aspect that every managerial and other subordinate carry out daily. Generally, our choices are bound by three factors, which include risk, uncertainty, and certainty. These conditions determine how a manager or any employee will implement the decision. This essay explains various types of organizational arrangements as well as correlated aspects.
Strategic decisions are left to the top-level management. In my previous workplace, the president and managers were obligated to decisions like when to introduce new products in the company shelves and to franchisees. This decision required rational strategic decision-making considering the impact of the aspect on the future performance of the organization. Such decisions are long term and required integrating the process with the company's long-term goals as well as the whole workforce. A failure in a heavily invested decision could readily lower organizational growth. Although not as frequent as administrative decisions, operational decisions are made regular, unlike strategic decisions with an aim on short-term goals. From experience, short-term goals like fulfilling a customer's order in a matter of days or minutes are frequently repeated with the daily work operations. Meeting customer needs is a single influence that has a significant impact on not only short-term solutions but also the overall productivity (Kourdi, 2011, p. 197). In my previous workplace, operational decisions were, most of the time, taken following the strategic choice and company mission.
