Essay Instructions:

As with all of the assignments for this class, first, make sure to thoroughly review the required background materials. Make sure you fully understand the concepts of the Johari Window as well as Transactional Analysis. You need to have a solid understanding of these important concepts in order to successfully complete this assignment.
We will once again be applying the concepts from this module to your own experiences as a way of finding potential ways to develop your leadership skills. For this assignment, choose a current or former supervisor or subordinate and think carefully about how the concepts from the Johari Window and Transactional Analysis applies to this current or previous supervisor/subordinate relationship. Think carefully about the flow of information and communication between the two of you, and also times when either of you behaved as “adults,” “parents,” or “children” in your dealings with each other. Don’t worry, this assignment will be purely between you and your instructor so feel free to be as honest and self-reflective as you can.
More specifically, write a 4- to 5-page paper answering the following questions below. Make sure to cite at least one of the required readings in each answer, and to cite at least three sources total from the background readings in your paper:

Using a Johari Window analysis, what do you think some of your supervisor’s or subordinate’s blind spots are?
What do you think some of your potential blind spots might be?
Also using a Johari Window analysis, what kind of hidden spots did you keep between you and your supervisor or subordinate? Did you suspect your supervisor or subordinate of having hidden spots?
Based on your answers to Questions 1 and 2 above as well as the required readings, how might Johari Window analysis be used to improve this supervisor/subordinate relationship that you wrote about in the above two answers?
Using Transactional Analysis, give some specific examples of when you and your supervisor or subordinate acted like “parents,” “children,” or “adults.” And be honest—we all act like “children” sometimes in the workplace.
Based on your answer to Question 4 and the required readings, how do you think this supervisor/subordinate relationship might have been improved using Transactional Analysis?

A good place to start are these two videos that explain the basic concepts of the Johari Window and Transactional Analysis along with some applications to leadership:

One of the mistakes that leaders make today is believing that they hold a place of authority in the organization. Such kind of belief makes them disrespect their employees and other people. There is a famous quote that states, "To lead is to serve," this shows that the job of a leader is not to command because commanding is not the only reason that one can become a good leader. When a leader does not have the favor of the followers, then that kind of leadership is useless. To be able to lead, a leader must be able to satisfy the expectations of the followers. A leader must be ready to sacrifice oneself for the followers, just like the followers do for their leader. The personality and identity of an individual make one special and unique. For example, there are those people who are perceived to have a serious character while others are jokers. The transactional analysis and the Johari Window are the theories that are essential in captivating the leadership skills of leaders. The following is a case study of my scenario with that of my supervisor.
Question I & 2
Sometimes being criticized is very important because it assists people in figuring out what they are supposed to do. The response that you give people when criticize you makes them judge you, like how you conduct yourself, like how you view things and ascertain how you perceive things (Brown, 2014). Feedback is vital because it is a response that is given by other people. People should let you know how your responses influence them. The Johari Window is a model that examines the process of getting and issuing feedback (Burke, & Barron, 2014). In my case, the supervisor is not aware of his disruptive behaviors. He is very bossy, and he likes commanding people around the organization. He is task-oriented, but he does not know he possesses this trait. Sometimes he will make decisions in the company out of emotions. He does not welcome new ideas from the employees because he loves to control and influence others. These are some of my supervisor's personality traits, and they make us fall in the blind spot.
I am not perfect because I have some personality traits that people might not like. These are some of the traits that I always try to hide so that my working relationship with the supervisor will not be affected. I am hilarious, and I love joking around. If I joke, he might think that I cannot be serious with my work, and I cannot handle difficult tasks. I am timid such that I cannot speak in a large crowd. This is difficult because I always struggle during presentations. It is clear enough that if my professor got to know of these things, he would have negative feedback, and this will affect my career. I have no choice but to hide them. However, sometimes, I feel like my supervisors do cross the limit because he will do things that will make me feel uncomfortable when around him. For example, he will buy me snacks, give me some extra, or drop me off at my residence after work. That is why I feel he has some personal feelings towards me. However, if he portrayed it, our working relationships would be affected, and that why he will pretend to the public...
