The choice intervention strategies can be applied to other psychotherapy theories since individuals have needs that influence their behavior. The motivation to make choices, while the survival needs and psychological needs influence human behavior, since they are more likely to meet these needs, the better it is to reinforce positive behavior. While working with clients, psychologists seek to understand whether there are unmet needs, as they try to differentiate the reality from the perceptions. This makes the choice intervention strategies applicable among therapists who rely on different theories.

People make positive changes by taking action, and therapists identify the strategies that they use to assess clients, while determining what identifies their thoughts and feelings. The reality theory highlights the need for clients to make positive changes that influence their behavior.
