The article Reclaiming my Indigenous Identity and the Emerging Warrior: An Autoethnography is written by St-Denis and Walsh (n.d). The article explores the four-year journey of St-Denis as a social worker for the indigenous population; the document is divided into sections that include awakening, exploring, indigenizing, reclaiming, belonging, and the emerging Warrior. Being one of the Aboriginals, St-Denis provides a detailed account of her interaction with the community as a social worker for four years. The authors explore the history of the aboriginals and how they lost their identity before colonization, during and after their contact with the Europeans. St-Denis and Walsh (n.d) believe that reclaiming the indigenous heritage and identity is a dynamic process that involves awakening, exploring, indigenizing, reclaiming, belonging, and lastly nurture the emerging Warrior.
I like the article because it provides the experience of a social worker engaging with the Aboriginal community. Despite her position as one of the aboriginal members, St-Denis has utilized the secondary sources to incorporate the views of other authors in her writing. The author believes that social workers can transform various aspects of the society that include political, economic, environmental and institutional level through the decolonization and indigenization of the curriculum to cater for the welfare of the native people.
