Jordan’s Principle is a fundamental policy principally for the First Nations children. Its implementation is critical as it provides for the First Nation people equal access to services offered by the government to children such as medical care, education, childcare and recreation and culture, and language services that are available to other children in Canada. With this, more children, especially with disabilities, will receive professional assistance and care as opposed to the parents relying on their abilities to support their children.
Secondly, the policy when implemented benefits the indigenous people, as they can push for accessibility to services facilitated by the elimination of the requirement that one be suffering from multiple disabilities to receive help. Thirdly, by implementing this principle, the needs of the people will be prioritized to jurisdictional responsibility between the federal and provincial governments. Consequently, disputes are eliminated as to who is responsible for the bills, thus, avoiding disrupting provision of services or lack of them just as in Jordan River Anderson’s case.
