The Occasional Evil of Angels: Learning from the Experiences of Aboriginal People and Social Work.
Social workers are believed to be doing what is good to others and it is hard to imagine them causing harm to people whom they are supposed to take care of. Even with evidence of harmful actions from social workers we have always tried to protect ourselves from believing it. This article tries to explore how we blind ourselves from seeing the bad things social workers can do because of the believe that they have good intentions to the society. The paper outlines the harm Aboriginal Children experience in the society.
Blackstock explores two of the philosophies that underpin the social work concept, which is the assumption of pious motivation and effect and the desire to improve others in the society. The paper also tries to explain how responding to the harm caused to Aboriginal Children through the introduction of social work has not helped at all.
