Improving Air Quality in the UK through Reducing Emissions from Industrial Processes
Improving air quality in the UK has become a pressing policy issue with growing concerns about environmental sustainability and public health. The UK has been at the frontline in the fight for environmental sustainability. However, it has not succeeded in taming some of its key greenhouse gas producers. Industrial emissions are a major contributor to air pollution, and the UK faces the challenge of balancing industrial development with environmental responsibility. This paper explores the multifaceted initiatives aimed at improving air quality in the UK, focusing on reducing emissions from industrial processes. By examining the current state of air quality, the impacts of industrial emissions, and the evolving regulatory landscape, this paper seeks to identify viable approaches and innovative policies that can play a pivotal role in creating a cleaner and healthier atmosphere for present and future generations.

It is vital to emphasize that emissions from agricultural, forestry, and fisheries combustion, as well as emissions from institutional or commercial combustion, are not included in this category. The increasing industrialization in the UK and the accompanying increased use of fossil fuels mark the high risks that industrial processes pose to climate change. In the wake of heightened changes in the climate of the world, efforts must be put toward addressing the industrialization issue and its emissions challenges in the UK (Ricardo Energy & Environment, 2022). As shown in figure 1, the UK has made progress in reducing its emissions footprint in various industrial processes. However, the country has not reached its targeted thresholds thereby leaving room for the adverse impacts of climate change. Between 2005 and 2021, the UK witnessed a
