Human Sexuality - Prostitution
Prostitution is the act of engaging in a sexually relevant act with other people or strangers without an affectionate relationship in exchange for money and or other during the actor near the period of the act. Therefore, a prostitute is basically a voluntary seller of sexual services. In prostitution, the relationship is transient and impersonal. Before we get deep into the subject, I would like to note the legal status of prostitution in the Americas. The act is prohibited in the United States with exceptions in certain counties of Nevada. On the other hand, prostitution is legal in Canada. However, soliciting, working in or owning a brothel is prohibited. Similarly, patronizing and employing for the purpose of prostitution is equally prohibited in Canada. The act is legal; in certain parts of Mexico. Parts labeled as “zones of tolerance.” Cuba, Venezuela, and Brazil allow prostitution. Even though it is illegal to advertise or operate a brothel in countries like England prostitution is legal. While in other nations like Japan and Thailand, the act is technically illegal but broadly tolerated (Connelly, M. T., 2018).
Both the political and hypothetical framework of prostitution and sexual exploitation among women is broadly deliberated upon by several academic and legal scholars. As such, many of the theoretical literature covering the topic focuses majorly on the macro perspective leaving the micro-level perspective in misery. Although it is essential to study the micro-level theory causal relationship, this paper will primarily explore the topic within the scopes of the restrictive and the permissive sexual ideologies (Simon, W., 2017).
From the years 1960s, the famous “sexual revolution period,” sexual attitudes have gone through intricate and different transformations. Instead of consistently transforming in a permissive manner, the public opinion on sexual morality has taken varying directions, at different durations and varying rates. For instance, the public approval of the premarital sex rose between the 1960s through to early 1980s. However, a slight difference has been noted since the rise of favorable opinions regarding homosexual in the 1990s. Notably, the acceptance of extramarital sex has reduced over the past thirty years (Connelly, M. T., 2018).
Besides, attitudes differ considerably from subject to subject. For instance, presently, only 24 percent see premarital sex as “always wrong,” with 70% considering it so if the subjects are teenagers. Hence, to comprehend how sexual morality in its entirety has changed and whatever is approved or rejected, an individual must particularly explore all the facets. One of the most important elements which have very minimal scholarly attention is the public attitudes towards prostitution. Even though prostitution may be one of the oldest professions, studies on the public perspective as well as those on the practice and the laws governing the act are very sparse (Euchner, E. M., & Knill, C., 2015).
The public has generally opposed commercial sex over the past two decades. This is evidenced by the open public rejection of the efforts to ...
